Older Meyer ST Series Snow Plows
ADD THAT THIRD TRIP SPRING
IT REALLY HELPS
Above is my Meyer plow. I added the third trip spring. I used a scrap of angle iron I had laying around.1 1/2" x 1 1/2"x 3/16".You can see below, my brother's newer Meyer(1993) with the factory third spring. Mine has tripped a lot, and the 3/16" is holding up. Meyer used 2" x 2" x 1/4" angle iron. With the third spring, the blade doesn't trip or "lean" on hard packed snow. It scrapes it up like it should. I plowed one season with only 2 springs. Glad I added the third. You can see the trip spring adjusters are almost maxed out. These springs really have no room left for adjustment, and should be replaced.
Anytime you have to paint bare metal, Self Etching Primer is a must. Regular primer does not etch to the metal. Eastwood sells Self Etching Primer in spray cans and in quarts. The spray cans are handy.
